Classroom Decor That Doubles as Learning Tools: Parts of Speech Posters

You want your classroom to feel welcoming—like a space where students are excited to learn and feel right at home. At the same time, you don’t want to just fill your walls with “stuff.”

You want decor that looks good and works hard for you and your students. ✨

That’s where Parts of Speech Posters come in. Not only do they brighten up your space with a pop of color, but they also give your students a daily reference they can actually use during writing and grammar activities.

This image shows a bulletin board set up to help students learn parts of speech. The text at the bottom of the screen says Classroom Decor that doubles as learning tools: Parts of Speech Posters

What Are Parts of Speech Posters?

These are posters that highlight the different parts of speech.

The most common parts of speech are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.

Teaching how to identify parts of speech is tricky.

Displaying these parts of speech charts around your classroom will keep these concepts front and center for your students.

And give them something to reference when they aren’t sure if a word is a preposition or an adjective. 😉

What’s Included on the Parts of Speech Posters?

On each part of speech chart, there is a description and some examples.

For example, the Verb part of speech poster describes what a verb is, followed by several examples of words that are verbs.

How Would I Use the Posters?

There are MANY ways you could use these parts of speech posters in your classroom.

Here are a few suggestions to get your wheels turning!

This image shows a display that helps students learn about the different parts of speech.

🌟 Create a Grammar Wall

Create a bulletin board display with all of the parts of speech charts.

Encourage your students to reference these charts as they work to break down sentences or identify specific words.

🌟 Pass out Student Handouts

Print these posters much smaller and hand them out to your students.

Then, they’ll always have a small reference guide to determine if a word is a noun or a verb.

Follow these steps to print posters as student handouts.

🌟 Include in Writing Centers

If you use writing centers in your classroom, have these posters be above the table your students sit to work on writing.

Or, laminate them and include them in the bin filled with the worksheets to identify parts of speech in a sentence.

🌟 Highlight One a Week

Slowly create a grammar wall by introducing one part of speech each week.

As your students’ understanding of parts of speech grows, so does your grammar wall!

Regardless of how you choose to use them, providing your students with a visual and example is a game-changer in your classroom.
