Stop Answering “What Do I Need?” With This Supplies You Will Need Visual

This image shows a whiteboard with supply icons cut out and hanging on the board. The text at the bottom of the image reads, "Stop answering "What Do I Need?" with this supplies you will need visual".

“Wait…what do I need again?”

If you had a dollar for every time a student asked that question, your summer vacation budget would be fully funded. 😉

You write the directions on the board.

You explain what students need before the lesson starts.

You even remind them again as they walk to their seats.

And somehow, five minutes later, someone is still raising their hand to ask if they need a notebook, scissors, or their pencil. 🤦‍♀️

A simple classroom Supplies You Will Need display solves that problem instantly. 🙌

Instead of repeating yourself all day, students have a visual reminder they can reference independently.

And as a bonus, it helps keep random supplies (looking at you, scissors 👀) from appearing when they aren’t actually needed.

Why Classroom Supplies Visuals Are a Game Changer

This visual resource is doing more than simply helping you not have to answer “Wait…what do I need again?” 50 million times.

These Supplies You Will Need visuals provide support to your students who cannot read yet and your multilingual learners

This image shows a close-up of a classroom Supplies You Will Need display. There is a banner that reads "Supplies You Will Need". Underneath that banner there are the following images: scissors, markers, crayons, glue sticks, pencil, and lined paper. Each image has the name written underneath.

Adding a simple image next to the word allows ALL of your students to easily understand what they are supposed to bring with them to the science or reading lesson that day.

What’s Included in the Supplies You Will Need Resource?

The classroom Supplies You Will Need resource includes a banner that reads “Supplies You Will Need” and then a BUNCH of little classroom supplies with images and the name underneath.

There are two different styles of images, so you get to choose the design you prefer hanging on your whiteboard!

One style really highlights the image of the classroom supply. The other design has everything inside a box to keep cutting simple.

You’ll find DOZENS of classroom supplies included in this resource!

Here are just a few:

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Book
  • Calculator
  • Headphones
  • Laptop
  • IPad
  • Pen
  • Paper Clip
  • Notebook
  • Ruler
  • Protractor
  • Sticky Notes
  • Clip Board
  • Tape
  • Colored Pencils

And SO many more!!

Setting Up Your Supplies You Will Need Display

Getting your classroom Supplies You Will Need display up and running is SUPER simple!

First, choose which design you are going to use in your classroom.

Then, make any edits to the word you use for that supply (or the language your students speak) within the PowerPoint file.

Next, print out your supply icons on high-quality paper.

After that comes the cutting. You’ll need to carefully cut around the images or the boxes for each of your supplies.

I recommend throwing on your favorite show and making a little party out of the occasion! 🥳

Next, LAMINATE everything.

Since these items will be hanging out on your board and touched a dozen times a day, spending the extra time to laminate them is definitely worth it.

I would even encourage you to use this laminating trick to make sure you only have to do this process once. 😉

After everything is laminated (and cut again), attach a bit of magnetic tape to the back of each item and your banner.

Underneath that banner there are the following images: scissors, markers, crayons, glue sticks, tape, and lined paper. Each image has the name written underneath.

Then, you’re ready to put your Supplies You Will Need display on your whiteboard.

Finally, teach your students to reference the items list BEFORE asking you what they need for social studies.

Using the Supplies You Will Need Resource In Your Classroom

Honestly, once you start using this resource with your students, you’ll wonder why you survived so long without it

Your students will naturally start paying attention to the list of supplies (and graciously reminding you when you have forgotten something 😉).

The number of times you have to answer a “What do I need again?” question will quickly drop to almost 0. 👏

I would recommend updating the Supplies You Will Need display before every subject.

That sounds ridiculous, I know, but teaching a whole day with a pair of scissors sitting on every student’s desk sounds terrifying 🤪. Trust me on this

This image shows a teacher adding cutout images of different supplies to her whiteboard based on what her students need for the upcoming lesson. There is a banner that reads "Supplies You Will Need". Underneath that banner there are the following images: scissors, markers, crayons, and glue sticks.

You can even have a student in charge of updating the Supplies You Will Need display before each subject as one of your classroom jobs. That way, it’s updated consistently, and you have help making sure it gets done!

Most of the time, you’ll find Notebooks, Pencil and Eraser out as your main classroom supplies, with Crayons or Gluesticks added in from time to time.

But changing it out after every subject gives students a natural reminder to put away classroom supplies, which means those scissors are much less likely to sneak back out during reading. 😉

Level up your transition time with this classroom visual support.
