✨ 1st Grade Classroom Decor Ideas

The vibes your classroom gives off is the first thing your students and families will notice as they walk through your door.

Mackenzie used the Modern Calm Colors Decor Bundle to create a room that is cozy, welcoming, and peaceful.

Soften the space and increase the cozy factor with some string lights around your bulletin board. Or, really, anywhere in your classroom! 😍

Also, think about which posters are most important for your students that you want to be most prominently displayed. I recommend adding those to the front of your classroom!

Adding a rug into the front of your room creates a space that feels more like a home than a classroom.

This image shows a great 1st grade classroom decor idea. The teacher has decorated a floating wall as a bulletin board.

Get creative with the space you have in your classroom!

Lean into the parts of your room that are different or a little quirky.

Mackenzie used this “floating wall” as a giant bulletin board. 🤯

Bulletin board backgrounds are amazing little hacks to bring your 1st grade classroom decor ideas to life, regardless of what your room looks like or how many real bulletin boards you have.

Classroom Community Builders

As you start to think about your 1st grade classroom setup and where you want to place your different decor pieces, don’t forget about building your classroom community. 💕

This image shows a close-up of classroom rules on a bulletin board display.

Posting your classroom rules somewhere in your classroom is a great way to do this from the beginning.

These rules are at the front of the whiteboard so students can reference them. It also makes for easy reminders of them when needed.

Creating a space to display your classroom jobs display is another way to remind your students they are part of a bigger unit.

✨ These jobs give your students a role and responsibility within your group of learners, but it can be hard to keep track of who is doing what all the time.

Using some Velcro dots to easily move student numbers between the jobs is a great way to keep everyone on track with who is in charge of what.

This morning area is perfect for 1st grade classroom setup!

The cute chair makes this space and time of day different and sets it apart. 🥰

The calendar is shown for the entire month, and the date is easily seen from the flip chart hanging above. Next to the calendar is all of the morning meeting talks about weather and days of the week.

Creating a one-stop-shop for this special time in your classroom makes it super functional and saves time!

One of the biggest 1st grade classroom ideas could be including some growth mindset work within your space.

💪 Creating a space to remind your students who they are and what they are truly capable of.

This display continues to build and strengthen the community of learners who will cheer each other (and themselves) on no matter what hard topics they come across this year.

1st Grade Math Resources

No 1st grade classroom decor is ready without some math resources to help your students tackle the complicated topics you’re teaching.

This image shows math posters for a 1st grade classroom.

Consider creating an entire bulletin display devoted to different math concepts.

The possibilities for what can go on this 1st grade classroom math wall are endless. ✨

This image shows money posters hanging around the sink area in a classroom.

Another great math resource to include in your 1st grade classroom setup are money posters.

Help your students learn the difference between all of the coins and bills they might not see on a regular basis. 😂

As you begin your 1st grade classroom setup, think about how you can incorporate some space for math resources for your learners!

1st Grade ELA Resources

Math isn’t the only subject your littles are busy conquering this year.

Reading and writing are two other key pieces that they could use some extra support in.

This image shows a teacher at the front of her classroom. On her smartboard is a slide that says Welcome to 1st Grade. Above the whiteboard are primary alphabet posters.

No 1st grade classroom setup is complete without alphabet posters. They are a great tool to remind your students of alphabetic order, let alone what individual letters look & sound like.

PLUS, they can be such a cute part of your classroom decor. 😍

Placing them over the whiteboard is a great place to keep them easy for your students to reference.

Learning the different parts of speech is tricky.

Make the learning process easier with some parts of speech posters.

This is another great 1st grade classroom decor inspiration that you can think outside the box when it comes to placing resources around your classroom!

Use the back of your door, cover it in paper to match your decor theme, place a border around it, and add your posters there!

Now your door is instantly a huge part of your 1st grade classroom decor. 🙌

This image shows a portion of a classroom wall that is created to be a word wall.

Another great idea for 1st grade classrooms is creating a word wall with your students throughout the year.

Post vocabulary you’re working on, sight words your students are mastering, or other words you just want your students to be able to spell.

Choose a part of your wall somewhere to house your word wall and get excited with your students as it slowly grows throughout the year.

Finding the perfect combination of 1st grade classroom decor and how to set up your room perfectly is hard.

Remind yourself that your students ultimately don’t care how their desks are arranged. They are excited to get to know YOU, the teacher who loves and cares about them. ❤️
