25 Last Day of School Activities for Elementary Students 

The last day of school can often feel like a whirlwind. 

Your students are bouncing off the walls with excitement for summer break, your classroom is halfway packed up, and somehow you’re supposed to keep everyone engaged until 3:05. 😅

But underneath all the energy and countdowns to summer is something really special: one final day together. ❤️

These last day of school activities will help you make the most of it with meaningful memories, lots of laughter, and fun that your students will talk about long after they leave your classroom.

1. Favorite Moments Memory Writing (or Drawing)
   
   Help your students walk away with a memento marking this school year.
   Maybe it’s that super cool field trip you went on, a funny inside joke your class has had the whole year, or that one time a spider was discovered.
   
   
2. Class Compliment Circle
   
   Go around the circle, swapping compliments for classmates from this week or the entire school year.
   
   
3. End of Year Awards
   
   Host an awards ceremony where you hand out an award to each of your students. Maybe they’re sweet, maybe they’re silly, maybe it’s a mix of both. It’s a great way to remind your students what you’ve enjoyed about them this year.
   
   
4. Classroom Scavenger Hunt
   
   You may have begun the year with a classroom scavenger hunt to help students figure out where supplies live.
   
   Make it an end-of-the-year scavenger hunt, giving clues to “secret” locations in your classroom for students to eventually find a prize at the end.
   
   
5. Would You Rather
   
   Kick the summer off by posing some would-you-rather summer-themed questions.
   
   
6. Summer Bucket List Creation
   
   Maybe it’s a book they really want to read, a new recipe to try, a fun outing to go on wth their family, etc.
   
   
7. Class Talent Show
   
   Have everyone pull out their hidden (or not so hidden) talents & perform for the class.
   Make it even more special by inviting another class to come watch your talent show!
   
   
8. Board Game Day
   
   Pull out the Trouble boards & Uno cards for an afternoon of games with your students!!
   
   
9. ReRead Class Favorites
   
   Pull out the picture books that your students would ALWAYS ask for and give them a final read in your room.
   
   
10. Write a Letter to Next Year’s Students
    
    Have your students address a letter to the student who will sit in their chair next year. Have them give tips, tricks, and encouragement to enjoy their 3rd-grade year.
    
    
11. Class Slideshow
    
    Put together the pictures you’ve taken over the course of the school year & play them for your students.
    
    Create a theatre-like space by pushing the desks back, turning the lights down low, and crowding together in the front of the classroom.

12. Jeopardy End of Year Game
    
    Break your class into teams and compete in the ultimate jeopardy game. Filled with questions about things they’ve learned, facts about you, AND things that happened this year (that might not be super academic).
    
    
13. Outdoor Picnic or Snack Time
    
    Enjoy the beautiful weather by getting outside and making your snack time a picnic.
    
    
14. Chalk Drawing
    
    Cover the sidewalks in colorful pictures and encouraging phrases to walk into summer.
    
    
15. Guess the Teacher Trivia Game
    
    Put together a trivia game about you and your teammates. See what students have really learned about you all this year!
    
    
16. Two Truths and a Lie
    
    Each student shares two truths and one lie, and the other classmates guess the lie! It’s a fun way to learn more about each other before the school year ends.
    
    
17. Calm Coloring Session
    
    Fight against the chaos of the last day of school with a calming activity in the afternoon (don’t forget to keep some markers & coloring pencils around for this)!
    
    
18. DIY Summer Reading Bookmarks
    
    Print out some fun bookmark templates and have your students decorate them.
    
    If you do this a couple of days early, you could even laminate them for your students BEFORE they leave for the summer.
    
    
19. Summer Photo Booth with Props
    
    Help students capture this special last day of school with their friends & classmates.
    
    Bulletin boards in the front of your classroom work great as backdrops! Add some silly moustaches on a wooden stick and sunglasses, and you have the PERFECT photo booth.
    
    
20. Desk Clean with Shaving Cream
    
    Make cleaning the tops of desks (or tables) a little more fun by giving each student a dollop of shaving cream to play with on top of the tables.
    
    Note, you will still need to actually clean the desks after this activity!
    
    
21. Last Day of School Interview
    
    Ask your students a mix of serious, fun, and ridiculous questions to close out their time in your classroom and grade level.
    
    
22. Year-End Blooket or Kahoot Game
    
    Create a Blooket or Kahoot game filled with questions about random things that happened in your classroom this year.
    
    (How many times a bird hit the window, number of snow days, where the markers always ended up, the game or activity that was always asked for, the favorite book, etc.)
    
    
23. STEM Challenge
    
    Pull out a simple STEM challenge and provide your students with a final chance to work together as a team.
    
    
24. Design your Dream Classroom
    
    Hand out large sheets of paper and ask your students to design their own dream classroom.
    
    Depending on the age/skill of your students, you could even have them try making it to scale to make it a little more challenging and realistic.
    
    
25. Dance Party with your Class Playlist
    
    Have your class playlist blasting through the speakers on the last day of school to wrap up the year in a style that is truly you. 

Regardless of how you decide to celebrate the last day of school with your students, it will be a day filled with excitement, joy, chaos, and a small bit of sadness at something so amazing ending.
