Morning Greeting Choices to Start the Day

We all want to help our students feel welcomed and cared for as they enter our door each day.

A great way to do this is by using morning greeting choices!

This image shows a collection of circular posters with different morning greeting choices displayed. You can see posters reading "Smile", "Fist Bump", "Hug", and "Say Hello" for example. Each poster has a word & image showing the action. Below the poster pictures the image reads "Morning Greeting Choices to Start the Day with 6 adorable poster sets."

Why Morning Greetings?

A morning greeting can be something as simple as a “Good Morning” on the way in the door.

But, why not take it a step further?

Add in the option for students to give a high five, fist bump, handshake, wave, or even a hug.

The key here is to give the student the choice. 🙂

When we take the time to give our students the choice of how they would like to be welcomed in the morning, we create a comfortable and friendly environment, and build relationships with our students.

Morning Greeting Choices for Students

There are SO many great ideas for morning greeting choices for your students each morning.

And, they will differ a little bit depending on your particular group of kids, and the grade level you are teaching.

Here are some of my favorite ideas to include:

➡️ High five

➡️ Fist bump

➡️ Handshake (you could even make up a fancy one 😉)

➡️ Dance (your student could help you customize it 🤪)

➡️ Wave

➡️ Say “Hello”

➡️ Pinky Shake

➡️ Smile

➡️ Hug

These different options provide LOTS of different entry points for your students each day.

This allows them to enter in a way that feels comfortable for them based on how they feel that day. 🙂

Ask for a couple of volunteers to demonstrate what each morning greeting option looks like.

Then, ask for a couple of volunteers to show you what NOT to do. (Maybe even specifically choose a couple of kiddos you have a hunch might struggle.)

Finally, ask those same volunteers to demonstrate what the expectations are.

Then, show students the morning greetings choice poster they can look at each morning & either point to or say what they would like.

I LOVE how this teacher displays her morning greeting choices on the back of her door. This way they are front & center for her students each morning.

No matter what style of morning greeting choices poster you use, bringing these into your classroom will be a great way to continue building your classroom culture & make your students excited to enter your room each day!
