Sound Wall Examples: Cards Included

As you choose a sound wall for your classroom, knowing what sounds are included is crucial. 🙂

The boho sound wall includes all these sound cards pre-made & ready to print!

This image shows the table of contents of all the sound cards included in the resource. The heading reads "Boho Neutral Sound Wall" and the table of contents reads: "Headings, short vowels, long vowels, diphthongs, y endings, r controlled, blends - L, S, & R, Beginning digraphs, trigraphs, double consonants, hard and soft C and G, stops, liquids, affricates, nasals, glides, fricatives, locks to cover single sound spelling cards, locks to cover 2 sound spelling cards, locks to cover 3 sound spelling cards, printing tip"

Also, editable cards are included so you can change the sounds as you need.

(Or create specific cards that are not included in the overall list.)

This image shows a close-up of sound wall examples showing the cards under the heading "long vowels". The cards include " long a", "snail" "cake", "long e", "leaf", "bee" and others. Each card has a picture next to the word.

In addition to the sound cards, this resource also includes heading cards and spelling headings to help you build an organized sound wall

All of the sound cards in the neutral sound wall are created with the same basic format.

The cards include the example word with the spelling pattern illuminated and a picture of the word.

Provide students with another reminder for each individual sound with the added picture!!

Sound Wall Examples: Setting Yours Up

To create a sound wall in your classroom, you have a few different options!

This image shows a sound wall example display with many heading and sound cards displayed.

1️⃣ You can choose to set the entire sound wall up all at once.

Wondering if this option is right for you?

🌟 You will know exactly how much space you need for your sound wall.

🌟 You won’t have to keep adding to your sound wall throughout the year.

🌟 Build excitement in your students for how many sounds they will learn this year.

If you go this route, you will print out ALL of your sound cards AND some lock cards.

To use the lock cards, start by putting up all of the sound cards on your display.

Then, cover the sound cards you haven’t learned yet with a lock image.

Here is a sound wall example using the lock cards.

As your students learn the sounds, or as you introduce them to your class, remove the lock cards.

This reveals the sounds underneath.

I love keeping this easy by placing the lock cards on top of the sound cards with Washi tape.

It sticks easily but is SO easy to remove without ruining the cards underneath.

2️⃣ You can choose to set the sound wall up as you go.

Why might you pick this option?

✨ You don’t have the time to set it all up right away.

✨ The slow build is a little less intense and overwhelming.

✨ You don’t want to have to deal with printing the lock cards out.

No matter which method you choose, you will end the year with a beautiful, neutral sound wall.

Sound Wall Examples: My Setup

For my detail-loving teachers out there, here are all the details for the sound wall examples seen in this post. 🤩

This image shows a display of a sound wall. There is a banner reading "Sound Wall" across the top of the bulletin board. All of the cards are in a boho neutral color scheme. The bulletin board has a wooden background and a black and white stripped border.

I used a 4 ft by 6 ft bulletin board for this display.

I did NOT use every single sound card included in my boho sound wall resource.

When I printed the cards, I printed them at 80% so they would be a little smaller to all fit.

If you don’t have a bulletin board that would be large enough for this display in your classroom, you could create one!

To create a “bulletin board”, use some sort of background and tack it to the wall.

Next, add a border around the edge to give it a finished look.

Viola! You have a new “bulletin board” in your classroom!
