You have the PERFECT plan for a beautiful bulletin board display with only one problem.
You don’t have enough bulletin boards in your classroom. 🫠
Don’t worry! All you need is some extra wall space to create your own DIY classroom bulletin board. 🤩
Follow these six steps to transform your empty wall with that beautiful display. ⬇️
Step #1: Prepare 📋
Begin this project by collecting all the items you will need to create your own DIY classroom bulletin board.
I recommend having these items on hand:
➡️ Printed (and laminated if you choose) bulletin board display items
➡️ Roll of bulletin board paper
➡️ Push pins
➡️ Washi Tape
➡️ Stapler
➡️ Border for your bulletin board
(Find my favorites of these things linked here. 😉)
Step #2: Measure 📏
Since you are creating a DIY classroom bulletin board, it can be as big or as small as you need!
So, the very first step is to figure out how much space you will need for your display.
I like to do this by laying my display on the floor in front of the wall like this. ⬇️
This tells you how much space you need on your wall (and how big to cut your bulletin board paper).
Step #3: Cut Your Bulletin Board Paper ✂️
Once you know how much space you will need for your bulletin board display, it’s time to cut the paper you will use as your background.
Then, add a few inches to your total display size on each end.
This will add space between the edge of your display and the “bulletin board” itself.
Step #4: Hang Your DIY Bulletin Board 🖼️
It’s time to start making this bulletin board real!
Grab some push pins and use them to hang your bulletin board paper (the background) onto the wall.
Start with push pins to make sure your bulletin board is level and right where you want it.
If you can’t put push pins in your wall, you could use Washi Tape or painter’s tape to help hold the board in place.
Once you are sure you like where the bulletin board is at, staple it in place!
Again, if you can’t use staples in your classroom walls, you could use Command Strips instead.
Step #5: Create Your Bulletin Board Display 🎉
Now comes the fun part! Take your bulletin board display from the floor onto your bulletin board itself!
Again, I recommend starting using Washi Tape to make sure you like the way everything looks before stapling it in place.
Finally, add those staples to hold your beautiful display in place!
Step #6: Add the Border
Finally, let’s give your DIY classroom bulletin board a clean finish with some border.
Add the border around the top and side edges of your bulletin board.
You might need to trim your background paper around a side or edge.
I suggest leaving the bottom border until the very end so you can make sure everything fits on your bulletin board. 🙂
Finally, add the final border piece, trim off any extra background paper, and voila, you’re done!
Sit back and enjoy the beautiful DIY classroom bulletin board you just created!
(Or, grab your supplies and build another one for that other blank wall 😂.)
