Don’t worry, we’ve all been there! Whether you’re running short on ideas or have so many that you don’t know where to start, there’s no need to stress.

My Meet the Teacher Night Kit is here to help you have an awesome event without spending endless hours preparing.

Use these tips and resources to help your open house or back-to-school night go incredibly smoothly so you can simply enjoy the night. 🙂

This image shows two printed resources. One is a sign that reads "Station 1: Please sign in here". The other is a list for parents to add their name & their student's name. The text at the bottom of the image reads "Helpful ideas and easy prep: how to get ready for meet the teacher night in no time."

Before Meet the Teacher Night: Send a “Nice to Meet You” Letter 👋

If you are lucky enough to have a class list before the end of the summer, you can make your first impression early.

An idea is to send your future students a welcome letter

This gives you a chance to introduce yourself, let them see a picture so they can recognize you, and start building that connection early.

This image shows editable meet the teacher welcome letters. All the letters are decorated in calm colors and matching decor.

If you aren’t able to do this, don’t worry! You will have plenty of time to do all those things once summer is over. ❤️

Now, let’s jump into the Meet the Teacher Night itself.

Welcome Signs 😊

Post a sign on your door, display it on your projector, or do both to welcome your students and their families into your room.

This image shows three different welcome signs. The signs all say "Welcome to..." and then different names. The three options are "Back to School Night", "Open House", and "Meet the Teacher Night".

This is a great way to help your students and families know they are in the right spot.

Use Stations 💙

One of the more intimidating parts of Meet the Teacher Night is making sure everyone fills out all the forms, answers all of your questions, and gets their supplies where they need to be.

Using stations is a FANTASTIC way to keep everything organized and streamlined on the night itself.

This image shows three different pieces of paper with stations listed on them.

Have a sign at each station telling people what they need to complete there.

Then, sprinkle the stations around your room so people can flow through them during their time at the open house.

This helps keep people from crowding the door and makes it easy for you to mingle as parents help you out!

You can use stations for ANYTHING. 🙂

Here are some ideas for stations to get your wheels rolling!

Station 1 – Parent / Guardian Sign In 🖊️

This is a GREAT first step!

Asking families to sign in helps you keep track of who stopped by during Meet the Teacher Night.

This image shows two printed resources. One is a sign that reads "Station 1: Please sign in here". The other is a list for parents to add their name & their student's name.

This is also a great cheat sheet throughout the year when you want to reach parents or guardians about specific kiddos.

Station 2 – Supply Drop 🖍️

If you are doing any type of community supplies or holding on to supplies for your students, this is a MUST.

Prepare some bins to hold the different supplies you want to hold onto for your students.

This image shows two white buckets sitting on top of a table. Each bucket has a label for a different type of supply. One bucket has a blue label that reads "Glue sticks". The other bucket has a pink label reading "Dry erase markers".

Then, students and their families can simply drop the supplies in the designated buckets!

If students’ supplies are kept for them specifically, add a permanent marker or two to this station so families can write student names on things.

This will save you SO much time during your first week of school!

This image shows a bunch of different labels for school supplies. Each label has the text written in white and a solid colored background.

This Meet the Teacher Night resource includes editable labels to customize your buckets for your classroom’s needs!

Station 3 – Student Info Sheet 📝

Back to School Night is a GREAT time to grab some information about your class!

Things like each student’s birthday, contact information for families, and allergies are great things to know about.

This image shows two printed resources. One is a sign that reads "Station 3: Please fill out the student info sheet". The other is a copy of a student info sheet.

This is also a great time to ask your families to share something about their students.

Asking your families to share a favorite story of their kiddo with you on the back of this sheet is a fun way to get to know both your students and your parents.

And, it is an awesome way to start getting to know your students outside of the classroom. ❤️

Station 4 – Transportation Form 🚗

Another helpful piece of information to grab during this time is how each student travels home.

This image shows two printed resources. One is a sign that reads "Station 4: Please let us know how your student is getting home this year". The other is a list with a space to write a student name & select from a list of transportation options.

Primary teachers especially love knowing how each kid expects to get home.

This helps your dismissal go smoothly and allows you to calm any fears your kiddos have.

Station 5 – Classroom Wishlist & Volunteers 🙋

A final station to provide during your Meet the Teacher Night is a place to display your classroom wishlist and volunteer signup sheet.

This image shows items needed for a classroom wishlist station. One is a printed list of items requested. Another is a QR code parents can scan. The third is the station title.

You can make a wishlist that you display with bulleted items, or create an Amazon list with a QR code to scan.

This makes it super easy for families who want to bring some extra supplies to know what would be most helpful for your classroom!

This image shows two pieces of paper held up in front of a bulletin board. One piece of paper is a classroom wishlist QR code. The other is a volunteer signup list.

Similarly, providing families with a chance to sign up to volunteer in the classroom makes Meet the Teacher Night a one-stop shop.

Back to School Night doesn’t need to be something that leaves you a bundle of nerves.

While first impressions are important, having a Meet the Teacher Night bundle on your hands to keep you organized allows you to focus on meeting your students. 😍

Which is really what the night is all about.

So, prepare for your night, set up your classroom, and then step back, relax, and enjoy all the excitement of meeting your students for the first time. ❤️
