This image shows a morning meeting bulletin board decorated with retro groovy classroom decor. The text on the picture read "Get Inspired: Fun Retro Classroom Decor Ideas You Don't Want to Miss!"

Hanna’s Classroom

Hanna created SUCH a cute classroom with her retro groovy theme! 😍🌸🛼

She has a youtube channel with videos of her setup process, and here is one of them if you want to see how she set up her room!

Bulletin Board Display Ideas

Hanna used the editable banners to give her bulletin boards headings.

This image shows a bulletin board in a classroom with the heading "Reading Wall". Underneath the heading are alphabet posters that display the capital and lowercase version of each letter. The posters are created using a retro color scheme. Underneath the bulletin board are book shelves filled with picture books.

Arranging the alphabet posters on a single bulletin board lets students know where to look for help.

This image shows a bulletin board with the heading "Math Wall". Underneath the heading are a bunch of different types of math resource posters. US currency posters, and posters with number frames for the numbers 0 - 20.
All of the posters are decorated in a retro theme.

Placing all of the math posters on one board means your students can easily reference the material all year.

The borders on these bulletin boards match the color scheme beautifully and add some soft colors.

This image shows a closeup of a bulletin board filled with different posters. There is a black and white background on the bulletin board. There are rule posters, voice level posters, and you can catch a glimpse of hand signal posters off to the side. This display gives many retro classroom decor ideas for how to set up displays in your classroom.

This bulletin board at the front of the classroom is perfect for helping with classroom management! It includes:

🌟 Classroom rules

🌟 Hand signal posters

🌟 Voice level posters

Morning Meeting Space Ideas

Hanna created a cozy and intentional section of her classroom for all things morning meeting!

This image shows a glimpse of the morning meeting area in a classroom. There is a cozy chair to sit in right next to the bulletin board. On the bulletin board is a heading reading "Morning Meeting". Underneath are all the things you might use during a morning meeting: pocket chart with a calendar, ten frames to count the days of school, a picture book, and weather station.

Did you notice that adorable rug? It is PERFECT for this retro classroom.

And the chair! 😍

This looks like the ultimate morning meeting space.

This image shows a close-up of a calendar in a pocket chart. The pocket chart is pale pink which matches the colors of the calendar cards wonderfully. There are images on the date cards (a peace sign, a rainbow, a smiley face, a heart & a flower).

A pale pink pocket chart pairs perfect with this theme!

This image shows a close-up of the weather station at the morning meeting spot. There are places to say what the weather is like, what season we are in, what day it is today, what yesterday was, and what tomorrow will be. You can see all of the options off to the right-hand side of the place mats. Everything is designed using a retro groovy theme.

Keeping all of the weather options nearby helps students remember what they can choose from as they talk about the day of the week, weather & season.

This image shows a close-up of a part of the morning meeting bulletin board. In the middle of the board is a spice rack filled with picture books. Underneath the spice rack are two little hooks which hold metal buckets holding Expo markers and slips of paper.

I LOVE these buckets! Not only do they match perfectly, but they also serve a purpose.

You won’t have to spend valuable morning meeting time looking for where you set down your Expo marker. 😉

Organizational Ideas

No retro classroom decor ideas list is complete without helping you think about all of the papers and supplies you use daily!

Check out how Hanna is helping keep herself organized and keeping things cute at the same time!

This image shows a 10-drawer cart that has been decorated using long labels in the retro groovy classroom theme. The labels read "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday", "To file", "Just no" and "important papers". The decoration on the labels looks like one giant rainbow, peace sign, and roller skate going down the entire front of the cart.

A 10-drawer cart for all of the papers, copies, and plans.

You’ll notice Hanna personalized the bottom three drawers to categories she will actually use.

This image shows a pink teacher toolbox decorated with colorful labels, all in the retro groovy theme. The inner labels are smaller and just solid colors. The larger labels on the outside create a rainbow when put together. The labels are for a BUNCH of different teacher tools, including "Flair pens", "Push pins", "Sharpie markers", "Staples", "Pens", etc.

A teacher toolbox labeled and decorated to match the rest of the classroom vibe.

This image shows a counter top in a classroom with a shelving system. The shelves are very small and each has a colorful tray inside of them to hold papers or other small nicknacks. The colors of the tray blend with the classroom decor theme perfectly. Next to the shelves is a small, pink, retro mini fridge. These are both great retro classroom decor ideas.

I mean….can something more perfect have been created to be a part of this classroom??

The colors on these drawers are STUNNING and blend naturally with everything else.

And the retro mini fridge? Simply perfection. ✨

Other Retro Classroom Decor Ideas

To round things off in Hanna’s classroom, she has a few other key items from the bundle that I want to be sure to mention.

This image shows a visual schedule for the school day. Each title is decorated with some retro themed graphic. Next to each subject ("breakfast", "art/pe", and "math" for example) is a analog clock showing a certain time.

Posting this cute and functional visual classroom schedule right where students will see it is a great idea!

This image shows a giant clock. The background of the clock looks like a woven basket. The numbers are large and black around the clock. Outside of the clock are small labels helping students learn what each number correlates to in terms of minutes. For example, next to the big 4 on the clock is a little circle with the numbers ":20". The clock labels are decorated with rainbows, flowers, peace signs, and smiley faces.

I LOVE the idea of having a GIANT clock in your classroom so students can read it and use it more easily!

Adding the little clock labels around the outside makes it even better. 😍

If any of these items sparked an idea you want to bring into your classroom, check out Hanna’s Amazon page to find the EXACT items she used!

Kennedy’s Classroom

Here is Kennedy’s Retro Groovy Themed Special Education Classroom. 😊

Her classroom is also decorated using my retro classroom decor bundle but has different accents.

Classroom Overview Ideas

I LOVE what Kennedy’s classroom looks like as a whole.

This image shows a classroom decorated in a retro theme. There are string lights and three large, shiny, pink smiley-face piñata's hanging from the ceiling. You can see alphabet posters along the top of the wall at the front of the classroom and different types of tables scattered throughout the classroom.

The combo of string lights and giant smiley-face piñata’s is unreal 😍

If you are also wanting to hang lights from your ceiling, Kennedy told me she hung the string lights using jumbo paper clips. First, she bent the clips to a 90-degree angle. Then, she slid them under the ceiling tiles.

Pure genius! 👏

This image shows a corner of the classroom. There are number posters running along the top of the wall. The bulletin board has a black and white polka dot background. Surrounding the bulletin board is a border covered in multi-colored smiley faces. A lamp provides a soft glow in the classroom and inspirational posters decorate one side of the long bulletin board. There are shelves with books along the wall and a teepee to read in. Everything matches the retro classroom theme.

Thinking of how to incorporate something cozy with reading is always exciting as you think about your classroom setup.

Also…check out those smiley-face bulletin board borders!

This image shows the front of the classroom. There is a large smart board in front of the whiteboard. There are alphabet posters running along the top of the wall. The white board is surrounded by a colorful daisy border that matches the retro colors. Off to the side of the smart board is a pocket chart filled with August calendar cards. In front of the smart board is a checkered rug that is light pink and burnt orange.

This picture alone is filled with SO many great ideas for your classroom!

1️⃣ The flower border around the whiteboard. Again, the colors, images, everything is made for this bundle.

2️⃣ They are small in the picture, but the blue and teal bins have custom labels on them to keep everything organized!

3️⃣ THE RUG. Let me tell you, Kennedy is incredible when it comes to finding ways to make things match your decor.

Here’s how Kennedy MADE (yes, you read that correctly) this rug. ⬇️

First, she purchased two rugs. A pink one from Walmart and a burnt orange one from rugs.com.

Then, her dad used an old cardboard box to make her a 6” square template.

Next, she used a box cutter to cut 6” pieces of the rug using the template.

Finally, she laid them out in a checkered pattern in the desired shape and put them together using duct tape and carpet tape.

How cool?  And such a great idea. If you can’t find the perfect decor item, figure out how you can make it!

Display Ideas:

This image shows a Birthday display on a bulletin board with a 10-drawer cart in front of it.
The display has hexagonal cards for each month of the year. They are decorated with rainbows, roller skates, peace signs, and other groovy icons.

Using a border to divide a large bulletin board into smaller sections is a great way to save space!

Kennedy’s birthday board has lots of great space to celebrate her students all year long!

This image shows a bunch of color cards placed on the wall. Each poster lists the color it is, and has a smiley face in that color displayed.

Not all displays need to be on an official bulletin board!

Simply placing items or posters on your walls works just as well.

Final Groovy Ideas:

Kennedy’s affirmation station is right by her door so her students enter and leave her classroom with encouragement. 🥰

This image shows an affirmation station in a classroom. The affirmation station is setup using a black mirror surrounded with a white and black polka dot border. Attached to the border are small, square cards with different affirmations on them ("Kind", "Funny", "Sweet", "Helpful", etc.) Each card is decorated using retro colors and icons.

Here are her tips on setting up this space in her classroom:

“The affirmation mirror is a basic black mirror from Target that is hung with command strips. Then I added bulletin border around the outside using sticky tack, and that’s also how I hung the affirmation words also!”

This image shows a small bookshelf in a classroom. On the bookshelf are four binders with labeled spines. The colors of the spines match the rest of the classroom decor. There are also a couple of books, signs and pictures on the bookshelf. Off to the left-hand side of the bookshelf is a curtain covered with flowers and peace signs.

Having a little set of shelves devoted to your teacher things is a GREAT idea in your classroom.

No matter where you are in your decorating journey, it is always exciting to find a new idea to bring back with you!
